General Information

The Eleventh Australasian Workshop on Combinatorial Algorithms (AWOCA2003) will be held in Hunter Valley on 29 July - 1 August, 2003. The workshop will follow the style of its predecessors: problem-oriented papers and an emphasis on informal discussions.

Authors are invited to submit papers presenting original and unpublished research in the following areas:

  • Algorithms and Data Structures
  • Complexity Theory
  • Graph Theory and Combinatorics
  • Cryptography
  • Algorithms on Strings
  • Graph Algorithms
  • Graph Drawing
  • Computational Algebra and Geometry
  • Computational Biology
  • Communications Networks
  • Probabilistic and Randomized Algorithms
  • New Paradigms of Computation

This is not an exclusive list and papers related to other theoretical aspects of Computer Science will also be considered. Papers which state and discuss open problems and work-in-progress within the general theme of algorithms and computational complexity are especially encouraged.

Symmetry Day

The second day of AWOCA (Sunday July 30) will incorporate a one day workshop on the theme of Symmetric Drawings of Graphs. The aim of the workshop is to gather mathematicians and computer scientists to discuss methods for representing graphs in 2 and 3 dimensions with as much symmetry as possible. For more information contact

     Seokhee Hong (shhong@cs.newcastle.edu.au).

or see

     Symmetry Workshop website.

Organisation and Location

AWOCA 2000 is organised by the School of Information Technology, and the School of Management, The University of Newcastle and will be held at Pokolbin Village Resort and Conference Center, The Hunter Valley.

Registration

The registration includes conference proceedings, lunches, morning and afternoon teas, welcome party and conference dinner. All payments are to be made using a check or money order payable to "Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering, The University of Newcastle" in Australian Dollars. Please use the registration form, html or postscript.

Early (before 31 May 2000) Late (after 31 May 2000)
Regular fee AU$ 250 AU$ 300
Student/Pensioner/Unemployed fee AU$ 125 AU$ 150

Accommodation

Pokolbin Village Resort and Conference Center is the preferred conference hotel.

There are three ways to book accommodation at Pokolbin Village:

  1. email to Brad at brad.leary@pokolbinvillage.com.au
  2. fax Brad at +61 2 4998 7377
  3. ring +61 2 4998 7670 and ask for Brad
Brad will want to know your date of arrival and departure and whether you want single or twin (share) accommodation.

Note that twin accommodation means you can still have your own bedroom because the accommodation consists of two rooms (bed in each) and a bathroom between them. If you would like to share but do not have anybody to share with, tell Brad.

In any case, tell Brad that you are with AWOCA2000. Be prepared that he will expect 50% deposit when you make a booking.

Prices (per room, per night):

    $110 single
    $130 twin share

Saturday

    $150 single
    $190 twin share

Transportation

Transport to Pokolbin Village Conference Centre from Sydney or Newcastle.

You can hire a car or use one of several shuttle services. We have personally used the FIRST service listed below and we can recommend it.

Shuttle services:

  1. All Travel Connections
    ph. + 61 2 4955 6777
    fax: + 61 2 4965 6811
Cost from Sydney $45 per person per trip. Groups of 4 or more cost $40 per person per trip. Cost from Newcastle $35 per person per trip. They offer a door to door service (they will pick you from anywhere in Sydney or Newcastle) in air conditioned shuttle buses. They run according to your timetable and will wait even if your plane is late. If you happened to be the only passenger (which is very unlikely) then there is an extra charge.
  2. Hunter Valley Airport Transfers
    ph: + 61 2 4934 1477
    fax: + 61 2 4934 1476
Cost $45 per person per trip (from Sydney or Newcastle). They will negotiate a discount fare for groups of 5 or more. They run to some sort of a timetable which is listed on their web page.

NOTE. In both cases booking is essential.
